If you've never heard what a male eider duck sounds like, you owe it to yourself to go and listen to it. No really: go and listen to the fourth recording on this list from Cornell and tell me it's not delightful. I'll wait.

Otherwise, eider ducks are an extremely characteristic, easy-to-identify species of marine diving duck that will dive underwater to capture and feed on marine invertebrates (particularly mussels and other shellfish). These ducks are found in cold, northern regions of the Atlantic, and are prized for their insulating down which they use to line their nests with to protect their eggs. They stay near coastal regions throughout the year, and can sometimes be seen forming large rafts of several dozen birds.
