SBA017: Puffin in Flight

SBA017: Puffin in Flight - Auks
A puffin (Fratercula arctica) in flight over the Farne Islands. Puffins are quite restricted in the food they can catch and eat, and are heavily reliant on stocks of sandeels in particular around the breeding colonies. If the sandeels fail, the puffins cannot travel far to find alternative food, and may starve or resort to low-quality prey like pipefish.
