One week in...

08th September 2009
I've been out at sea for a week now on a research cruise to investigate the biodiversity of deep-water reefs off the coast of Ireland and so far it's been great! As far as the photography goes, we've had loads of wildlife around the boat this last week, including a group of around 100-200 shearwaters which joined us while we were at our first sampling station, we've seen (and photographed) four sunfish (which are probably one of the strangest species of fish in the ocean), and been joined by several pods of common dolphins. Considering how far offshore we've been, it's amazing how 'full' the sea feels at the moment!

I can't upload any images at the moment as I'm still onboard the research boat for another two weeks, but I'll hopefully be able to update the news posts again to keep you updated on any new sightings and what photos you can expect to see in the galleries once I'm back after the 22nd of September.
