Marine ID Course Success!
26th July 2009
In: News and Updates
Well, the Marine Identification Course was last weekend at the University Marine Biological Station, Millport (UMBSM), and even though writing it stole all my free time in the last three weeks, it was definately worth it and we had a great weekend!
The course covered 5 lectures:
Biological Groupings
Marine Life
Sampling and Collecting Specimens
The Marine Environment &
Human Impacts
I held those in the mornings, and we went diving off the UMBSM pier in the afternoons. The pier was pretty perfect for our purposes as it was full of life and very light, which was a bonus for the photographers in the group!
This course is aimed at recreational divers, and I am happy to repeat the course again for any other groups who are interested in learning the basics of identifying marine life. I will likely be running one or two in-branch courses for the Glasgow dive clubs which I am a member of, and probably another regional or national course again next summer. If you are looking to organise a course for your own group, please just get in touch and we can discuss it.
Big thanks to everyone who made this weekend run so smoothly, and to all the students who made it such an enjoyable experience! I will have a selection of new underwater & some marine ID images up in the galleries this week before I head off on holiday for the next two weeks.
