Busy New Year!

29th February 2012
Well, as usual SCUBA training has all but taken over my life for the last couple of months (we always pick really inappropriate seasons to do these things in for some reason), but things have been ticking away quite well with the photography nonetheless!

As you may have seen from some of the Facebook posts, I bought a GoPro HD just before Christmas to take with me when I'm diving and out on the boat, and although it's mostly only been out snowboarding so far, I'm hoping to get it in the water this weekend and see how two different housings compare to each other, so keep an eye out for that later in the week. The nice thing about the GoPro really is the range of mountings available - I've got the helmet mounting which means I can wear it on my head while I'm diving and it leaves my hands completely free. Since I spend so much time diving with new divers or trainees, it's not that appropriate to have my big camera with me all the time, and I'm hoping that the GoPro will fill that gap until the DSLR gets wet again!

The RIB also finally took its first batch of divers out to the Sound of Kerrera very successfully this past weekend, and I think it's going to be a great wee dive boat. There's more space in it than we thought and it's really stable which will be excellent for us, so I'm hoping that will mean a lot more adventurous dive trips will be on the cards come the springtime. We've got some Go Pro footage from a wee trip around in the Clyde which I'll pop up when I get a chance as well and you can see how it compares to the older models of 'action camera' (I used to use a wee Oregon Scientific ATC2K, but the metering is far far better on the GoPro!).

Anyway, with things starting to ease off on the dive training, I'm hoping to have a bit more time to get out with the camera again now the weather is improving and get out for some more interesting dives too!

In the meantime, as you may have noticed, I've made a couple of small changes to the site and have created a new 'Nature' gallery containing 'Seascapes' and 'Abstracts and Textures' folios. I'm also continuing to add in new photos from last year's trips as I am able to find the time!
