Basking Sharks in Mull
23rd July 2010
In: News and Updates
Well, that's me back from a great few days in Mull where I was helping out on a marine mammal field course, where we saw *loads* of basking sharks, including a 7m individual which breached only 10m in front of our boat! I was too stunned to get the camera ready in time, but it was amazing to see.
As well as the sharks, there were big groups of Manx Shearwaters, a few porpoise and seals and the other groups reported minke whales as well, although we had no sightings of them on our boat. Very excitingly, we also got word that the Scottish pod of 9 orca were passing close by just as we headed out on our last day, but we were unfortunately beaten by the weather. They would have been really cool to see; maybe one day!
I'm working through the shots this weekend and will have updates ready to go for Monday. In the meantime, I'm still updating the Facebook page so keep an eye on that too!
