Peacock fan worm

A close-up of a peacock fan worm. These animals are segmented worms (polychaetes) that construct a tube in which they hide most of their bodies, and which rises out of the sediment, making them look like large flowers. The only part that is visible is the fan, or gills, which are used both for breathing and for filtering food out of the water.
