SBF001: Take off - Fulmars
A fulmar (Fulmarus glacialis) taking off from beside our boat in the Firth of Lorne. These birds are related to the albatrosses of the southern hemisphere (although they are much smaller), and seek out food by smell. The tube-structure on top of their bills is highly sensitive, and fulmars will often be amongst the first birds to arrive where there is food.
