IDI001: Tall Sea Pens - Invertebrates
Several tall sea pens (Funinculina quadrangularis that were recovered while traling in the north Minch. The species is characteristically elongated, and the stem (axis) has a square cross-section which distinguishes it from other similar sea pens. Unlike the other British species, the tall sea pen cannot retract into the sediment when it is disturbed, making it particularly vulnerable to fishing.
