WDP002: Common dolphin - Whales, Dolphins and Porpoise
A short-beaked common dolphin (Delphinus delphis) travelling alongside our boat. A pod of around 20 animals followed our trawler for about 15 minutes, bowriding with us and playing in the water. This species has characteristic 'hourglass' markings down its flanks, and is smaller than the bottlenose dolphin which is also common in the UK.
