IDE004: Thornback ray - Sharks, Rays & Skate
The thornback ray (Raja clavata, family Rajidae) can be relatively difficult to identify due to its highly variable colouration, which can be anything from spotted to marbled. However, the entire upper surface is 'prickly' and studded with large thorns on the upper surface of the disc in adults.
