Stranded Sperm Whale
A young sperm whale was stranded on this Orkney beach before Christmas and is slowly being picked clean by scavenging birds and other animals. The basic shape of the whale is still visible despite the degradation, and the lower jaw with tooth sockets can be seen to the left hand side of the carcass.
