Thornback ray (bycatch)
The eye of a thornback ray (Raja clavata) which was captured in a prawn trawl in the Clyde Sea Area. Sharks and rays are often caught as bycatch in trawls and dredges, and many species are now considered to be at risk or threatened. The thornback ray, has a 'low risk' (near threatened) status on the Red List however.
