Turnstones
A group of ruddy turnstones (Arenaria interpres) on the beach at Largs, by the Clyde estuary. As the name suggests, these birds feed amongst rocks and pebbles along the shore, turning over stones to reach invertebrates underneath them. This species is common all around the UK, and indeed the world, with winter migrants arriving in Britain from Canada and Greenland.
